We have great news! As you know, plans for our 2020 reunion were set for this July. We contracted with the Sheraton Lisle Naperville Hotel to host our family reunion. Then, the pandemic hit! We contacted them in early March about our options. At that time, they were not willing to cancel or postpone our reunion, with hopes that the pandemic would end soon, thus not affecting our event in July. If we chose to cancel the contract, we would have to pay the cancellation fees noted in the contract, which amounts to THOUSANDS of dollars. However, the hotel wanted time to monitor the pandemic situation before considering other options. During that time, we also posted online polls to get a consensus of what the family wanted to do. The final results were that the majority, 65% of 134 votes, voted that they would rather attend the reunion next year instead of this year.
We just received the final decision from the hotel. Although they will not cancel our contract without penalty, they are now willing to reschedule the reunion to July 22-25, 2021 under the same contract and terms. So, we the planning committee are very happy to announce that the next Ealy Family Reunion will now be held next year, same location and time frame! Moreover, in concurrence with all the government mandated regulations, shutdowns and layoffs, etc. that the nation is faced with, we feel it is in the best interest for our family to accept this option.
If you’ve made your hotel reservations at the Sheraton under the Ealy Family Reunion, the hotel will automatically cancel your reservations. No other actions are needed. We will post the updated itinerary, registration info, and reservation link soon.
Lastly, we would like to clear up some misunderstanding regarding a letter you might have received recently pertaining to a potential location for a 2022 reunion. This letter was NOT from the Chicago planning committee. Traditionally, the location of the next reunion is voted on by the family at the reunion and not decided by an individual chapter. Therefore, due to the timing and unexpected circumstances, the Chicago planning committee will be sending out a survey soon to allow family members to suggest cities for the 2022 reunion. A voting poll will follow.
We apologize for any confusion or inconvenience this may have caused. Additionally, we apologize for any misrepresentation of past and future announcements not sent from the Chicago planning committee about 2022. We are one family, and we are all in this together. Let’s pray for one another as we continue to endure this pandemic. Thanks so much for your patience and understanding. Please share this notice to anyone not on Facebook.
